We Are Seeking Highly Motivated Doctoral Candidates

Applications for 15 Doctoral Candidate positions within the REALISE Doctoral Network will open at the start of the project in February 2026. REALISE is seeking outstanding and highly motivated Doctoral Candidates (DCs) to work at the intersection of igneous petrology, volcanology, machine learning, and societal applications.

Elegilility

Supported researchers must be doctoral candidates, meaning they must not already hold a doctoral degree at the time of recruitment.

Researchers who have successfully defended their doctoral thesis but have not yet been formally awarded the degree are not eligible.

Doctoral Candidates must be recruited and enrolled in a doctoral programme that leads to the award of a doctoral degree in at least one EU Member State or Horizon Europe Associated Country. Recruited researchers may be of any nationality.

All recruited researchers must comply with the MSCA mobility rule: They must not have resided or carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in the country of the recruiting beneficiary for more than 12 months in the 36 months immediately prior to the recruitment date.

Periods of compulsory national service, short stays such as holidays, and time spent during refugee status application procedures under the Geneva Convention are not counted towards this limit.

English Language

Doctoral Candidates (DCs) must demonstrate a level of written and spoken English sufficient to ensure they can fully benefit from the training and activities offered within the network.

Exclusivity

The selected candidate must work exclusively on the action.

Salary and Benefits

Successful candidates will receive a comprehensive financial package in line with the rules for Doctoral Candidates (DCs) in a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions (MSCA) Doctoral Network. Employment will be provided by the recruiting organisation and will include mobility and family allowances (where applicable), together with full social security coverage.

Doctoral Candidates will benefit from a competitive salary, paid leave, options for remote work (in accordance with institutional regulations), and access to national social security schemes.

The gross monthly salary consists of the following components:

  • Living allowance: €4,010/month (as defined in Section 1.1 of the MSCA Work Programme). This amount is adjusted by a country-specific correction coefficient based on the location of recruitment (see Table 1 of the MSCA Work Programme).
  • Mobility allowance: €710/month.
  • Family allowance (if applicable, depending on family status): €660/month.

Additional regulations of the recruiting institution may apply.

Successful candidates will:

  • be enrolled in a PhD programme,
  • conduct research in a stimulating international environment with access to state-of-the-art facilities and supervision by recognised experts,
  • participate in local and network-wide training activities aimed at advancing scientific knowledge and transferable skills,
  • attend workshops and international conferences relevant to their research topic,
  • undertake secondments of approximately 4–6 months at other network or associated partner institutions.

Recruitment procedure

The DC positions will remain advertised until all posts are filled.

Recruitment will be carried out and monitored in full accordance with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers, the Code of Conduct for the Recruitment of Researchers, and the Doctoral Network mobility rules. The process will follow an open, transparent, merit-based, impartial, and equitable procedure, tailored to each individual DC position.
